Photo Tips Page

We spend many hours creating quilts- it's our passion. Yet many don't take photos of their work. So, why take photos of your quilts?
  1. Record keeping - especially if you gift or give away a quilt. Having a photograph of it to include with your documentation helps keep track of what you've done.
  2. Follow your progress / development
  3. To share with our quilting community. The Modern Quilt Guild started through photo sharing and we learn a lot and get inspiration from sharing our creation.
  4. To enter into shows (more about that below)
Remember ... Just about anyone can take decent pictures of their own quilts. Today's camera technology on simple smart phones and tablets have really changed photography and you'll be amazed at what you can do with what you may already have on hand, in your hand, everyday. So have some fun with it!

Here are our tips for social media and below are some additional resources for those who want to learn more.

Tips for taking quilt photos for Show and Tell

  • Take your photo outdoors between 8-10 am or 4-6 pm or anytime during a cloudy day.
  • Have someone hold the quilt if possible. If not lay it on the grass or drape it over a bush, chair, table, etc.
  • Try to zoom in as close as possible.
  • Please don’t stress, you are not submitting your quilt to a show. This is just you, showing your fabulous quilt to your guild friends.
