Fire Relief Quilts - Donate and Make a Difference

Support the victims of the recent LA fires by donating a quilt. Quilts will be collected at our meeting on August 12, and recipients will be able to choose a quilt to take home for comfort and warmth.

  • Donations: Quilts of all sizes and designs are welcome.
  • Special Quilt Label: A custom quilt label will be available at a future meeting to add a personal touch to your donation.

Let your creativity shine and help those in need by contributing a quilt. Thank you for your support!

Call for Quilt Designs: QuiltCon 2026 Community Outreach Challenge

The Modern Quilt Guild has announced the 2026 QuiltCon Community Outreach Challenge, and we’re calling on LBMQG members to submit design ideas for our guild’s group quilt entry!

Challenge Theme: Medallion Quilts

Designs should build out from a central motif using repeating shapes, borders, or striking secondary patterns.

One design will be selected to represent Long Beach Modern Quilt Guild at QuiltCon 2026 in Raleigh, NC. If multiple designs are submitted, the guild will vote to select the final quilt design.

Color Palettes

Choose one of the two official color palettes—Brights or Blues—and use all the colors in that palette. Neutrals or other colors may not be used in the quilt top or binding.

Size Requirements

  • Minimum: 60" x 80"
  • Maximum: 65" x 85"

This is a group quilt project. We encourage participation in both the design and construction phases.

Full challenge details and rules can be found on the MQG website:

Design Submission Deadline

TBA
Submit your design to: longbeachmqg@gmail.com

Time is of the essence—meeting this early deadline ensures we stay on track with planning, material prep, and construction for the final QuiltCon entry.

Let’s work together to create something beautiful and collaborative that showcases the creativity of LBMQG!

Fabric Donations for Art Therapy – Compton Unified School District

We’re partnering with our new friend Gaea, a Long Beach-based art therapist working with Compton Unified School District. She’s looking to incorporate fabric into therapeutic art projects and is seeking donations to help stretch a limited budget.

  • Fabric:
    • Any size yardage or pre-cuts
    • Scraps at least 3" x 3"
    • 2.5" jelly roll strips (4" or longer)
    • Any style—bold, traditional, or wild prints welcome!
  • Art Supplies: Glue sticks, cardstock, markers, art pencils, and pens

We’ve made our first collection at the May Meeting, and Gaea will join us again in October at our annual Fabric Swap Extravaganza. Donations are welcome any time, if you're able to help with transporting materials. Your support would be greatly appreciated—thank you for your generosity!
